Endourology

Endourology refers to a speciality field of urology in which minimally invasive surgery is performed on the urinary tract. It involves the treatment of conditions that affect the urinary tract in both men and women, and diseases of the male reproductive organs.

Endourology is a highly specialised field in that all procedures are conducted via minimally invasive techniques, which means that no large external incisions are made in the skin. This facilitates quicker recovery.

The surgical instruments typically include lasers and cameras, which allow your surgeon to assess and treat conditions accordingly.

Some common endourological procedures include:

  • Urethroscopy
Assess blockages in the urethra and use therapeutic manouvres.
  • Ureteroscopy
This procedure is used to treat stones and tumours in the ureter.
  • Cystoscopy
This procedure is performed in order to treat bladder stones and tumours.
  • Nephroscopy
This procedure is performed to remove kidney stones and treat tumours in the kidney lining.
